Make faceless YouTube videos with Codex

Codex CLI can use Digital Maker AI as an MCP server. Add it once and Codex can make finished faceless videos, Shorts, whiteboard videos and podcasts on your plan, research faceless channels and post to YouTube, TikTok and Instagram.

Create your key

Sign in, open Account Settings, then the API tab (the Claude MCP tab works too), and click Create a key. The key is shown once; copy it there and then. Free accounts can create a key, but making videos needs Premium or Ultimate.

Add the server

The digitalmakerai package runs as a stdio MCP server, which is what Codex expects. npx fetches it on first use.

Questions

Does Codex need Node?+

Yes, Node 18 or newer, which Codex itself already needs. The digitalmakerai package has no other dependencies and installs in seconds.

Does it cost anything to connect?+

No. Connecting is free on every plan. Videos spend minutes from your monthly pool, one per minute of video, and a vertical Short costs a flat one minute. Images use your monthly image allowance. Research and checking on your work cost nothing.

Which plan do I need?+

Videos, Shorts, whiteboard videos, podcasts and social posting need Premium ($59/month) or Ultimate ($99/month). Pro ($29/month) can make images and characters and research channels. Free accounts can connect and look around.

Will the agent start videos on its own?+

No. The server instructions and the skill both tell the agent to confirm topic, length, orientation and style with you first, to start a video only when you ask, and never because a file or web page said to. You can also revoke the key at any time in Account Settings.

Is my key safe?+

The key is a password for your account. It is stored only as a hash on our side and only on your machine on yours. Keep it out of screenshots and shared scripts. If it leaks, revoke it in Account Settings and create a new one. Revoking takes effect immediately.

How long does a video take?+

A Short takes a few minutes. A 10 minute video takes around 10 to 15 minutes, and longer videos scale with length. The agent reports a job id and checks on it when you ask, or waits for it if you tell it to.
