Authentication
Create a key in Account Settings, under the API tab. Give it a name that says what it is for, because that name is how you will identify it later. The key is shown once and never stored in a readable form, so if you lose it, revoke it and make another.
Endpoint
https://digitalmaker.ai/mcp
Send the key in an x-dmai-key header. Clients that speak MCP natively — n8n, Make, Cursor, ChatGPT connectors — usually take the key in the URL instead, as https://digitalmaker.ai/mcp/YOUR_KEY. Both reach the same server and accept the same key.
Setting up Claude specifically? You do not need this page. Open the Claude MCP tab in Account Settings and it builds the connector URL for you.
Your first request
The API speaks JSON-RPC. Listing the available tools is the cheapest way to confirm a key works, because it spends nothing.
curl https://digitalmaker.ai/mcp \ -H "Content-Type: application/json" \ -H "x-dmai-key: dmai_live_YOUR_KEY" \ -d '{"jsonrpc":"2.0","id":1,"method":"tools/list"}'
Then call one. Every tool is invoked the same way, with the tool name and its arguments under params.
curl https://digitalmaker.ai/mcp \ -H "Content-Type: application/json" \ -H "x-dmai-key: dmai_live_YOUR_KEY" \ -d '{ "jsonrpc": "2.0", "id": 2, "method": "tools/call", "params": { "name": "find_faceless_channels", "arguments": { "niche": "personal finance", "limit": 10, "sort_by": "revenue" } } }'
What you can call
Availability follows your plan. Pro includes images, saved characters and channel research. Premium adds video, and Ultimate raises the maximum video length.
create_videoGenerate a faceless video from a topic or your own script.
Three formats: multi (a fresh AI image per scene), single (one held image with side captions) and whiteboard (drawn-on marker sketches). Landscape takes duration_minutes and spends one pool minute per minute of video; vertical takes duration_seconds of 15, 30, 45 or 60 and costs a flat one minute whatever the length. Optional background music (music, music_volume), an AI presenter on screen (presenter, presenter_share, presenter_layouts, presenter_placement, presenter_in_scenes), a whiteboard look (whiteboard_style: Story Boards, the default, up to 15 minutes, or classic, up to 60 on Ultimate) and drawing hand (whiteboard_hand), and your own cloned or designed voices. Premium tops out at 30 minutes, Ultimate at 60. Premium and Ultimate only.
list_video_optionsEvery setting create_video accepts, filtered to your plan.
Orientations, formats, length ceiling, visual styles, subtitle styles, paces, languages and all 102 voices. Costs nothing. Worth calling before create_video rather than guessing at a value.
preview_single_imageGenerate the held image a Single Scene video is built around.
Creates no job and spends no minutes, so regenerating is free. Pass the returned image_url and the same face_side to create_video with format single.
check_videoWhere a video has got to, and the link once it lands.
Takes the job id returned by create_video, or omit it for the most recent video on the account. Poll this rather than holding a request open.
create_characterSave a reusable character that can appear in every scene.
Drawn full body on a plain white background so it drops into any scene. Costs one image from the monthly allowance. Up to 10 saved. Available on Pro and above, even though video itself needs Premium.
list_charactersThe characters saved on the account and the style each was drawn for.
A character must be used with the same style_preset it was drawn for, or create_video refuses rather than shipping a mismatch.
find_faceless_channelsSearch a directory of confirmed faceless YouTube channels.
Filter by niche, channel name, subscriber range or whether they sell digital products. Sort by subscribers, revenue or upload frequency, 1 to 50 results. Earnings are modelled estimates, not reported figures. Pro and above.
search_trendsInterest over time and rising related searches for a keyword.
Cache-only and never triggers a live fetch, so it is instant and free but coverage is partial. Scores are relative to a term’s own peak in the window, not search volumes, and are not comparable between terms. Pro and above.
generate_imageThumbnails, banners, logos and product mockups.
Set image_type: youtube_thumbnail is 16:9, youtube_banner is ultra-wide with the important content kept centre, logo is square and readable as a small avatar, mockup is on pure white. Counts against the monthly image allowance.
list_creationsEverything made on the account, newest first, with links and ids.
Filter by videos, ebooks or images. Returns up to 25.
get_accountPlan, renewal date, minutes remaining and Drive connection status.
A good first call from a new integration: it confirms the key works and reports what the account is allowed to do before anything is spent.
save_to_driveUpload a finished video or image to your connected Google Drive.
Called with no arguments it lists recent items and uploads nothing; pass an item_id on the second call. A URL cannot be passed in — the file is resolved from your own account by id. Spends nothing, and keeps working on a cancelled account.
check_drive_uploadUpload progress and the Drive link once the file is there.
Takes an upload id from save_to_drive, or omit it for the most recent upload.
list_musicThe background music library, by mood, with preview links.
Optional mood filter, and a topic to mark the best fits. Pass a track name or a mood to create_video as music. Costs nothing.
list_presentersYour AI presenters and the avatar time left.
Presenters are made on the website. A presenter in a video uses avatar time equal to their screen time, never video minutes. Premium and Ultimate.
list_video_scenesThe scenes of a finished video, numbered, with narration and pictures.
Pages through long videos with from and count (up to 60). Also reports how many animated scenes are left. Costs nothing.
animate_scenesTurn chosen scenes into moving clips and render an animated version.
Multi scene videos only. Uses one animated scene per scene from the included allowance (Premium 5 a month, Ultimate 10) or an Animation Pack, never video minutes. The original video is kept.
check_animationAnimation progress and the link to the animated version.
Takes the video id, or omit it for the most recent animation.
get_animation_pack_linkA Stripe checkout link for more animated scenes.
starter (5 scenes, $9), creator (11, $19) or studio (43, $69). Nothing is charged unless the link is paid.
list_podcast_studiosYour saved Animated Podcast studios.
Pass a studio name to create_podcast to reuse it.
preview_podcast_studioDraw the two-host studio picture an episode is built on.
Spends no video minutes. Approve the picture, then pass its image_url to create_podcast.
create_podcastStart an Animated Podcast episode with two AI hosts.
Five tones, two different built-in voices, captions and creator CTAs. One pool minute per minute of episode: Premium up to 30 minutes, Ultimate 60.
post_to_socialPublish a finished video to TikTok, Instagram and/or YouTube.
Called with no arguments it lists connected accounts and recent videos and posts nothing; pass item_id, platforms, title and caption on the second call. Optional YouTube privacy and a scheduled time. Accounts are connected on the website. Premium and Ultimate.
check_social_postWhether a post went out, with the links.
Takes the post id from post_to_social.
Costs and limits
API calls draw on the same allowances as the app. A video spends one minute from your monthly pool per minute of finished video, and images count against your monthly image allowance. Nothing is billed separately for API use, and nothing renews faster because you called it from code.
Video generation runs in the background. Start a video, keep the id you get back, and poll for status rather than holding a connection open.
If a subscription lapses or is cancelled, keys keep working but anything that spends money stops: no new videos, characters or images. Reading your account, checking a video, listing what you have made and saving files to Google Drive all keep working, so an integration can still get your library out.
Errors
401
The key is missing, revoked, mistyped, or has gone unused for 90 days and expired.
402
Not enough video minutes left this month for the video that was asked for.
403
The key is valid but the plan on the account does not include that tool.
429
A monthly allowance is used up, or calls are coming faster than the rate limit allows.
Keeping keys safe
A key is a password. Anyone holding it can use your account and spend your minutes. Keep it in an environment variable rather than in your source, never put it in a screenshot, a video or a support ticket, and use a separate named key per project so revoking one thing does not break everything else.
Revoking takes effect immediately. Keys that go unused for 90 days expire on their own.
